Overview
Laboratory indicator test papers are used for rapid detection of the pH value, oxidation-reduction state and other properties of solutions. Common types include pH test paper, starch-iodide test paper, phenolphthalein test paper, lead acetate test paper, turmeric test paper, etc. They indicate the properties of the solution through color changes. They are widely used in scientific research, environmental protection, food safety and other fields.
Features
1. Red litmus paper: used to detect acidic substances, turning red when exposed to acid.
2. Blue litmus paper: used to detect alkaline substances, turning blue when exposed to alkali.
3. Neutral litmus paper: can be used to qualitatively test the acidity or alkalinity of solutions or gases, but it cannot provide an exact pH value. However, it can indicate the general acidity or alkalinity of the solution.
4. Phenolphthalein paper: phenolphthalein is colorless in acidic environments and turns pink in alkaline environments.
5. Methyl orange paper: methyl orange is red in acidic environments and yellow in alkaline environments.
6. Starch-iodide paper: used to detect oxidizing agents, such as chlorine gas, which oxidizes iodide ions and reacts with starch to turn blue.
7. Thymol blue paper: used to detect pH values, with color changes depending on pH. Acid range: pH 1.2 (red) to 2.8 (yellow); Alkaline range: pH 8.0 (yellow) to 9.6 (blue).
8. Lead acetate paper: mainly used to test for the presence of hydrogen sulfide gas, causing the paper to change from white to black.
9. Turmeric paper: mainly used to identify the presence of borates. In acidic conditions, the paper changes from yellow to brown; when alkalized with sodium hydroxide, the brown spots turn blue to dark green.
10. Cobalt chloride paper: can be used to detect moisture, with the paper color changing from blue to pink; it can also be used to detect carbon dioxide, causing a color change when the paper comes into contact with it.
11. Congo red paper: can quickly detect the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. In acidic environments, Congo red paper appears blue, while in alkaline environments it turns red.
12. Phenol red paper: most commonly used as an acid-base indicator. It shows different color changes at different pH values, with a color change range approximately between pH 6.8 (yellow) and pH 8.4 (red).
13. Methyl violet paper: used as an acid-base indicator, with a pH color change range of: 0.13 - 0.5: yellow to green, 1.0 - 1.5: green to blue, 2.0 - 3.0: blue to purple.
