The Abbe Refractometer is a high-precision optical instrument that is capable of determining the refractive index and average dispersion of transparent and semi-transparent liquids or solids.


1. The operation is straightforward and convenient, employing visual aiming and optical dial reading, which results in higher precision.
2. Digital-display thermometer, enabling the switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit displays.

4. It can be externally connected to a thermostat to determine the refractive index of transparent, semi-transparent or solid substances within a temperature range of 0 - 70℃.

Technical data

Precautions:
1. When in use, take care to protect the prism. During cleaning, only lens tissue should be used instead of filter paper, etc.
2. When adding the sample, ensure that the tip of the dropper does not come into contact with the mirror surface. The Abbe refractometer must not be used for corrosive liquids such as acids and bases.
3. Each time during measurement, the sample should not be added excessively. Generally, only 2 to 3 drops are sufficient.
4. Pay attention to maintaining the cleanliness of the instrument and protecting the dial. After each experiment, add a few drops of acetone to the mirror surface and dry it with lens tissue. Finally, sandwich two layers of lens tissue between the two prism mirror surfaces to avoid mirror surface damage.
5. During reading, sometimes a clear bright-dark boundary line cannot be observed in the eyepiece but appears distorted. This is due to the liquid not fully filling the space between the prisms. If an arc-shaped halo emerges, it might be because the light has not passed through the prism but directly illuminated the condenser lens.
6. If the refractive index of the sample to be tested is not within the range of 1.3 to 1.7, the Abbe refractometer cannot make the determination and the bright-dark boundary line will not be visible.
7. Avoid placing the instrument in environments with high temperature, humidity or strong electromagnetic interference to prevent influencing the measurement accuracy.
